Hedge and shrub cuttings
Describe the pile dimensions and whether the material is loose or bagged. Mention thicker branches within the cuttings.

SCRAPPA · LANCASTER
Finished cutting back the hedge or tidying an overgrown corner? Arrange collection of the green waste left behind, with the material, quantity and garden access described clearly before you book.
Quote your Lancaster garden waste collectionDescribe the pile dimensions and whether the material is loose or bagged. Mention thicker branches within the cuttings.
Give quantities and bag sizes and explain if the material is wet, compacted or decomposing.
State approximate lengths and thicknesses. Large trunks, stumps and root balls require their own assessment.
Explain what has been pulled up and how much soil is attached. Heavy earth or turf is not the same load as light plant cuttings.
Tell us whether the load contains grass, leaves, hedge cuttings or branches. Different materials pack and handle differently.
Declare soil, turf, stones and rubble separately from light greenery so their weight is considered.
Say whether the waste is loose, bundled or bagged and describe bag sizes or the dimensions of the whole pile.
Explain gates, steps, shared paths and the carrying distance to lawful loading. Mention if the route passes through the home.
A garden near Greaves Park or in Scotforth may be reached by a side passage, rear gate or steps rather than the front driveway. In Bowerham and the Ryelands area, explain shared paths and any locked entrance where relevant. Williamson Park and nearby roads identify the locality, but they do not tell us the width of your garden gate or the distance from the pile to lawful loading. Provide those property details with the postcode.
Area examples: Bowerham, Greaves, Scotforth and Ryelands. Postcode district: LA1. Enter the exact postcode to check the collection address.

STEP 5
Review the load, preparation and access before confirming the booking.
A tidy-up may leave hedge trimmings, leaves, grass, branches and earth in the same corner. Describe each material instead of calling the entire pile garden waste. Old pots, timber, fencing and other outdoor items should also be named if they are going. The quote needs the actual mixture, including anything hidden below the greenery.
For loose cuttings, approximate length, width and height help describe the pile. Explain whether it is densely packed or loosely stacked. For bags, give the count and approximate size. A few large sacks can contain much more than the same number of small bin bags, and wet material can be heavier than it looks.
Digging and border work often create dense waste alongside green cuttings. Record that material separately and keep it identifiable where practical. A collection for light greenery should not depend on undisclosed soil at the bottom of the load. If the amount is unclear, ask for assessment before choosing a load option.
For a garden in Scotforth or Bowerham, explain any side passage, steps or gate between the waste and the street. In Greaves or around Ryelands, access may be shared or reached from a different entrance. Tell us what applies to the property rather than assuming a vehicle can reach the waste from the road shown on a map.
Waste collection is different from hedge cutting, digging, tree surgery or taking down a shed. If a branch needs cutting to move or a stump remains in the ground, describe that before booking. Any extra work needs assessment and agreement; it should not be left as an assumption for collection day.
Do not add garden chemicals, unidentified liquids or material you suspect may require specialist handling without advice. Describe the concern before booking. Do not disturb suspect material merely to make the pile tidier. Mixed waste needs a suitable collection plan rather than being concealed under a layer of leaves.
Leave room for safe movement and avoid overfilled bags or projecting branches across a communal route. Arrange gate keys and a person who can identify the agreed load. If the gardening continues after booking and the pile grows, update Scrappa with the revised quantity and mixture before collection.
A booked collection can suit a defined pile with the agreed garden-to-vehicle loading included in the assessed work.
A skip may suit an ongoing project if its provider accepts the materials and you can arrange safe loading and suitable placement.
Declare soil, turf, rubble and outdoor fittings before choosing either route. Compare the scope and weight conditions, not only the visible pile size.
Clear the cuttings once the gardening work is complete and the final quantity can be described.
Remove an agreed accumulation of leaves, grass and plant cuttings with bag sizes and access explained.
Provide an authorised disposal list, a keyholder and clear instructions about waste and garden items staying.
Explain site permissions, gate access and any times when a communal route must remain available.
Describe whether the waste is loose or bagged so loading can be assessed. Keep any bags manageable and ask about preparation if you are unsure.
This page concerns removal of agreed waste. Gardening, digging, tree work and dismantling structures are not automatically included and need separate discussion.
Declare the soil separately with its quantity. Its density can change the collection requirements even when it takes up little space.
Give approximate length, width and height and say how tightly the material is packed. Include all of the pile, not just the visible front.
Provide dimensions and access details for separate assessment. A large stump, trunk or root ball is not automatically covered by an ordinary cuttings booking.
Tell Scrappa the revised quantity and material mix before the visit so the work and quote can be reviewed.
Enter your Lancaster postcode, describe the green waste and any separate heavy materials, then check access, available collection options and the final quote.
