Garden waste removal in Bury

A tidy garden can leave a surprisingly untidy pile. Scrappa helps arrange removal of declared garden waste in Bury after pruning, clearing borders or tackling a seasonal tidy-up.

Show us the complete pile and explain what it contains. Light hedge cuttings, wet grass and soil are very different loads, even when they fill the same number of bags. We use the material description, quantity and access details to plan the collection and loading work.

Know what is in the garden pile

Grass, leaves and soft cuttings

Describe whether these are loose or bagged and approximately how much is there. Wet grass and compacted leaves can be heavier than they look. Tell us if bags have stood outside in rain, and do not overfill sacks beyond what can be handled safely.

Hedge trimmings and branches

Photograph the full spread of the pile and give the longest branch lengths. A wide, loosely stacked hedge pile may take up considerable space. Mention thick trunks, large root sections or stumps separately; they should not be described as ordinary light pruning.

Soil, turf and dense materials

Declare these separately from green cuttings. Soil attached to roots and turf can make a small pile very heavy. Give approximate bag sizes, quantities and any known weight. The suitable booking and load limits need checking rather than assuming a green-waste selection covers everything.

Mixed outdoor clearances

If the pile includes fence panels, treated timber, plant pots, plastic bags, rubble or old garden items, identify them individually. They are not simply green waste. Photos should show what is behind and beneath the cuttings, so the collection can be quoted for the whole agreed load.

Why arrange your garden clearance with Scrappa?

Collection can be planned around the pile and the route from the garden to the loading point. Tell us about side gates, steps and a long carry so the loading work reflects the actual job. There is no need to drag heavy sacks through the house merely to request a quote.

Review the material selection and price breakdown before booking. Distinguishing green cuttings from soil, turf and mixed items helps avoid a mismatch between the quoted load and the waste on the day. If more waste is produced after booking, send an update before collection.

Scrappa is registered with the Environment Agency under CBDU613703, with waste transfer documentation provided after completion. Onward treatment depends on the materials and their condition. We do not promise that a mixed garden pile will all become compost or that every material follows the same route.

Prepare the waste without creating extra work

Keep different materials separate

Where practical, keep green cuttings away from soil, plastic, rubble and timber. Do not bury heavy material in sacks of leaves. If the pile is already mixed, explain that and provide photos rather than trying to describe it as a cleaner material stream.

Give useful bag information

Count the bags and describe their size and contents. Ten small garden sacks are different from ten large builders bags. If you do not know the weight, say so and show the contents; do not guess a low weight simply because a bag looks small.

Show the whole pile

Take a wide photo and another from the side, including hidden material behind a shed or fence. Loose branches can conceal additional bags or dense roots. Include a sensible size reference or rough dimensions so the quantity is easier to assess.

Check gates and carrying distance

Tell us the narrowest gate width, steps, slopes and the distance to a lawful vehicle loading position. Mention if access is only through the property and protect or move your own loose possessions out of the route. Keep pets and children away from the work area.

Disclose unusual or hazardous contents

Flag chemicals, gas cylinders, sharp metal, suspect hazardous material or invasive plants before booking. Do not place them in unlabelled bags with cuttings. Acceptance and any specialist arrangements must be confirmed rather than assumed from a general garden-waste request.

Garden access across Bury properties

The route can matter as much as the pile. A front-garden load beside a suitable loading position differs from a rear-garden clearance through a narrow passage. Give the full address and explain gates, shared alleyways, steps and any restricted entrance.

For Bury town-centre homes, describe where a vehicle can lawfully stop and any building or courtyard rules. Requests from surrounding Tottington, Whitefield or Radcliffe can be assessed through the address check. Availability and the collection arrangement are confirmed for the actual booking; no daily route or guaranteed local arrival is assumed.

Finish the work before the agreed collection

Plan when pruning or digging will end so the final quantity is known. If a gardener is still producing waste, clarify who is responsible for the remaining material. A collection quoted for one completed pile does not automatically include repeated loading while work continues.

Understanding garden waste pricing

Material, volume, weight and access affect the quote. A loose hedge pile may fill vehicle space quickly, while a few bags of wet soil may reach a weight limit first. The collection needs to account for both rather than relying on bag count alone.

For example, a border tidy-up might leave sacks of leaves, several branches and a separate turf pile. Describe each part and show how it is stored. A hedge reduction may leave long branches spread along a fence; include their approximate length and the size of the whole pile.

These examples describe the information required, not a fixed charge. Review the booking breakdown and disclose any uncertain weight. If the pile grows, becomes waterlogged or gains other materials, contact Scrappa before collection to check capacity and any change to the quote.

Is a booked collection the right option?

For small amounts of suitable green waste, your regular garden-waste arrangements or home composting may suit your needs. Check local acceptance rules. A collection can help with a larger, completed tidy-up when loading and transport need arranging. A skip may suit an ongoing project if the materials are accepted and you have a suitable location and loading plan.

Frequently asked questions

Do you collect loose branches?

Describe their length, thickness and the whole pile size. Large trunks, roots and stumps need separate assessment from light hedge cuttings.

Can soil and turf go with green waste?

Declare them separately. They can be substantially heavier and may require a different booking or load limit. Do not hide soil in bags of leaves.

Do I need to bag everything?

Explain whether the material is loose or bagged so suitable arrangements can be confirmed. Bags must not be overloaded, and their contents need to be known.

Can you collect from the back garden?

Give gate width, steps, carrying distance and any route through the house. Rear-garden collection must be assessed and agreed for that access.

Will you cut down trees or prune the hedge?

This page concerns removal of declared waste already produced. Tree work, pruning, excavation and dismantling are not automatically included in a waste collection.

Can you take fence panels too?

List panels and other outdoor items separately from cuttings, including their material and quantity. Mixed loads must be assessed for the actual contents.

What if I add more bags after booking?

Send an update before collection. More material can affect vehicle capacity, weight and the price, so it is not automatically included.

Will all the waste be composted?

Treatment depends on the actual material and condition. A mixed load cannot be promised a single composting or recycling outcome. Waste transfer documentation follows completion.
