A clearer garden starts with the right waste description

Material, quantity and access matter more than a pile’s appearance from one angle.

Green material identified

Describe leaves, grass, hedge trimmings and branches rather than calling everything garden rubbish.

Heavy waste distinguished

Declare soil, turf, stones and rubble separately so weight is considered.

Loose or bagged explained

Give bag quantities and approximate sizes, or the dimensions of a loose pile.

Garden access assessed

Tell us about gates, steps, paths and the carry to a lawful loading point.

Arrange collection after the garden work

Book the waste that is ready for removal; gardening and clearance work must be discussed separately.

Green waste: what is in the pile?

These common garden materials need different descriptions. Declare other waste separately.

🌿

Hedge trimmings

State whether cuttings are loose, bundled or bagged, and include the full pile size.

🍃

Leaves and grass

Give bag quantities and size, and mention wet, dense or decomposing material.

🌳

Pruned branches

Describe lengths and thicknesses. Large trunks, stumps and root balls need separate assessment.

✂️

Plant cuttings

List small prunings and pulled plants; declare soil attached to roots rather than treating it as light green waste.

Garden collections for finished outdoor jobs

The service removes the agreed waste; do not assume it includes cutting, digging or ongoing garden maintenance.

🏠

After pruning and mowing

Clear the accumulated cuttings after the gardening work is finished.

Garden collection or a skip?

The right option depends on the materials, how long the work lasts and whether the waste is ready.

When a skip may suit

  • ✗A longer project creates accepted material over several days.
  • ✗You can organise container space, any permission and safe loading.
  • ✗The provider confirms what can go in the skip, including soil or mixed outdoor materials.

When a Scrappa collection may suit

  • ✓The agreed garden-waste pile is ready for one planned collection.
  • ✓You need loading from a disclosed garden position rather than filling a container yourself.
  • ✓You want the green material and any separately declared heavy waste assessed correctly.

Turn a garden-waste pile into an accurate collection request

Identify the actual garden materials

Split the description into leaves, grass, hedge cuttings, branches and other materials. A photograph of greenery can hide soil, pots or old fencing underneath. Tell Scrappa what is in the whole load so the collection is based on its contents, not only its surface.

Estimate loose piles and bags differently

For a loose heap, give approximate length, width and height and explain whether it is densely packed. For bagged waste, state the number and bag size. A few large garden sacks can contain far more material than small bin bags, and wet cuttings can be much heavier than dry branches.

Separate soil, turf and rubble

Digging and planting work often creates heavy waste alongside green cuttings. Keep those materials identifiable and describe their quantities separately. A collection priced for light greenery should not be used for hidden soil or stones. If you cannot estimate the heavy material, request assessment before booking.

Check the route from the garden

Describe the gate width, steps, path and distance to loading. In Marton or around Stanley Park, a side passage may be the best route, while another property may require access through the house. For a shared rear lane in Layton, arrange permission and keys rather than assuming it will be open.

Keep preparation safe and manageable

Do not overload bags or leave sharp branch ends sticking across a shared route. Keep the load clear of neighbouring property and emergency access. If large branches need cutting or a tree stump needs lifting, discuss the work separately; a waste collection does not automatically include gardening or tree surgery.

Declare unusual or restricted material

Do not add chemicals, containers with unknown contents or suspect invasive plant material without advice. Name the material and explain any concern before booking. Old garden furniture, treated timber and rubble are also different from green cuttings and need to be listed accurately.

Review the load after the work finishes

A pile can grow substantially during a garden tidy-up. If you add more after arranging the collection, update Scrappa with the new quantity and material mix. Confirm the route and final quote before the visit so the planned work matches what is ready.

Garden waste collection questions

Help with bagging, heavy materials, pile sizes and the work included.

Does garden waste removal include gardening?

This booking is for collection of the agreed waste. Cutting hedges, digging, tree work, dismantling structures and garden maintenance are not automatically included; discuss any extra work before booking.

Do cuttings need to be bagged?

Tell us whether the load is loose or bagged so loading can be assessed. If bagging it yourself, keep bags manageable and do not overload them with soil or wet material. Ask if you are unsure about preparation.

Can soil and turf go with green cuttings?

Declare them separately. Soil, turf and stones can be far heavier than branches or leaves, so a green-waste description alone is not enough for the quote.

How do I estimate the pile size?

Give approximate length, width and height and describe how tightly it is packed. For bags, provide their count and approximate size. Include everything, not just the visible front of the pile.

Can you remove tree stumps or thick logs?

Give dimensions, approximate weight where known and access details for separate assessment. A large stump or trunk is not covered automatically by an ordinary cuttings collection.

What if there are other items in the garden pile?

List them before booking, including timber, fencing, plastic pots, rubble or chemicals. Mixed outdoor waste may need different handling; do not conceal it under green cuttings.

Hyper-Local Area Coverage

Rear gardens and Blackpool access routes

Explain the path from the waste to the vehicle before the collection is priced.

Licensed Waste Operations in Blackpool

A rear garden in Marton or the Stanley Park area may be reached through a side gate, steps or a shared passage. For a Layton property, explain any rear-lane entrance and whether it is unlocked. If the route passes through the house, say so before booking. Give the pile’s location, path width, carry distance and nearest lawful loading position. Do not assume a vehicle can reach a garden simply because a map shows a road nearby.

Permit StatusCheck the loading position

Describe parking restrictions and any building permission needed before the collection is booked.

Heavy LiftingSeparate dense materials

Keep soil, stones and rubble identifiable and declare them as part of the quote.
